Day
One: Davis to Lake Tahoe
Day One began with six
riders in Davis. Of these, four (Dan, Eduardo, Mojo, and
Eric) were heading for Lake Tahoe; Bo and Stuart were only going
as far as Sacramento. Two other riders, Ron and Paul, had
decided not to ride due to illness (they wouldn't be the last to
opt out of the ride)
Weather for Day One was great--unseasonably mild temperatures
and only a slight chance of thunderstorms at the higher
elevations.
Dan's parents started shadowing the ride in Placerville,
carrying water, ice, sodas, and snacks--a very welcome addition
to the ride (even if it did dilute the desperate, survival-mode
aesthetic of the Epic somewhat). |

About this time, Eduardo made a wise decision to turn back and

Two: Lake Tahoe to Davis
On Day Two, Campy Only's
Eric Norris rode solo back to Davis (everyone else stuck around
at Lake Tahoe for another day). Photos are somewhat
skimpy--we mostly concentrated on getting back home! |
