I bought this Haral bike in the shop I
managed in Boulder, Colorado in 1975. There were only a dozen like it ever
imported to the U.S. The shop bought the entire remaining stock of frames
and parts from the frame maker when he retired in that year. It features a
Reynolds 531 frame built with Nervex lugs.no braze-ons. It came equipped
with the full [French] Nuovo Record groupo including top-tube, bottom
bracket and chain stay bolt-on cable guides and TTT bars & stem. I
swapped up to 52-40 Super Record chain rings. I swapped the original down-tube shifters for bar-ends in 1977. I upgraded to C-Record Aero brake levers in 1986. The Centaur pedals are from 1999. I just finished rebuilding the headset and bottom bracket with NOS Nuovo Record parts. The original high-flange 36-hole hubs with Mavic tubular rims have been replaced with new Venus clincher wheels built with NOS Nuovo Record 24-hole, low flange hubs. The 126mm rear hub is dished for a 7-speed 13-21 cluster which the [ Pat. 1973.] derailleur shifts beautifully! The bike weighs in at only a little over 19 pounds. When I ride in the foothills above West Denver, I always get comments. "Wow, what kind of bike is that?" The only sticker on the bike is on the seat post. It's an original "Basque Sports Boulder", red, white and blue circle we put on everything. |
