Reader Craig Young sends these photos of his Pinarello, built up with a mix of (mostly) retro-era Campy parts:

This bike is my daily rider. I bought the Pinarello as a Shimano equipped bike. Well, of course, all of that S stuff had to go. I had a pretty much complete SR gruppo and a few wheelsets laying around, so I built it up. I don't do NR/SR "speed modulators", though, preferring to use something that actually stops. Therefore (should I have said Ergo?), the monoplaners and 95 Chorus levers. The seatpost is an American Classic, as I did not have a 27.0 Campy post for this bike.

  • Frame: Pinarello Catena Lusse - Columbus Cromor (mid 80's, but later than 1984, since it has the Olympics decal)
  • Drivetrain: Campy SR front / rear with Campy Record Hubs, Suntour winner Pro Ultra 13-23 6-speed. Campy SR crankset, 42/52 rings.
  • Wheeset: Ambrosio Medaille d'Or rims, 36 hole, Campy Record LF hubs, DT Revolution spokes, except for driveside rear, which are DT Champion 14/15.
  • Campy Athena monoplaner brakeset with 1995 Chorus levers.
  • Campy downtube friction shift levers.
  • Shimano headset (don't tell anybody; what can I say. It came with the bike and was still in good shape! I promise I will change it. (Someday)
  • Miche BB.

Hope you enjoy it. It really is a fun bike to ride, and I have several thousand miles on it.
