webmaster@campyonly.com writes of his 1990 Eddy Merckx:
"I lusted after this 1990 Blue 58 cm Merckx for 4 years. It was hanging in
the Bike Line shop at 12th & Locust in Philly PA for a total of 7 years. Two
offers were made (it cost $3100) but they didn't follow up with the rest of
the $. On 11/21/97, my dreams were realized as the shop was given orders to
sell since they were soon closing. I was able to buy this machine for $1175.
Full Record gruppo with Delta brakes (white accordians), the last friction
shifter(7spd) that Campy made with Nisi Laser rims and Corsa CX tubies and
SGR clipless pedals, Regina Hollow Pin chain and Regina Extra 7 spd
freewheel. I made two changes. Got rid of the tubies after 2 years and
dumped the pedals after 2 weeks. I think they nicknamed the pedals 'ankle
breakers' for a good reason. What's strange is that the white brake hoods
allow me to cable out the tops or under the sides (dual routing?). It weighs
under 22.5 pounds and gets ridden on 2 metric centuries every weekend. The
color is Cobalto Azzuro. I will never sell this one and hope someday to see
my daughters ride it. It always garners it share of compliments.
